Under Saudi labour reforms, employees can transfer their iqama without employer consent after completing 1 year of service if the employer is Platinum or Green rated on Nitaqat.

How Iqama Transfer Works in 2026

Saudi Arabia's updated Labour Law made iqama transfers significantly easier for expat workers. Here is what you need to know:

  • After 1 year: You can transfer without your employer's consent if they are Platinum or Green rated.
  • Red-rated employer: You can transfer at any time, even before 1 year, because the employer is non-compliant.
  • Expired iqama: Must be renewed before any transfer can be processed through Absher.
  • Process: New employer initiates the transfer through the Absher platform (absher.sa). You do not visit any office.
  • Cost: Transfer fees apply (typically SAR 200–500). Your new employer usually covers these.
